A California county's decision to divert opioid settlement funds meant for public health, to fill its budget gaps, raises alarming concerns. While this is just one county's action, with billions in settlements at stake nationwide, I wonder how much won't reach those it was intended to help. It seems that bureaucrats would rather use these funds to fill budget gaps than let people go. It reminds me of how CEOs don't like to give themselves pay cuts even when a company is having issues.
