Hi,
Florida is accepting more licenses to double the amount of registered patients. They are also giving preference to citrus farmers. The bad news is that they are boosting medical cannabis licensing fees from $60K to $1M! They are also charging $146K just for new companies to submit an application! So much for helping small businesses.
Unfortunately, federally approved cannabis banking is dead for 2022 as Congress didn't add it to the omnibus spending bill. We had our hopes up, but depending on who you speak to, the movement either fell one vote short of avoiding a filibuster or suffered at the hands of Democrat internal fighting on equity provisions. We also hoped that they would normalize the crack and cocaine punishments. Unfortunately, Congress continued its pro-nose candy agenda, keeping the disparity of sentences of crack to cocaine 18 to 1.
On a more positive note, Detroit has finally released 33 dispensary licenses after four years of anticipation and legal headaches! While Congress again refused to condone illegal cannabis in D.C., the D.C. city council vastly expanded its cannabis program, giving dispensaries a road towards licensing. I think that the D.C. police should lock and hotbox the halls of Congress and tell them they can’t leave until they allow cannabis banking and everyone exchanges hugs. :)
