Hi,
We included a partial list of big name companies that didn't survive 2024.
It was a bad week for UnitedHealth. An analysis stated that pharmacy benefit managers UnitedHealthâs Optum Rx and CVS Caremark collected over $120 million each in rebates on OxyContin sales, with the 80 mg dose making up to 31% of rebates for medicare patients. Also this week, a lawsuit from the state of Utah claims that Optum Rx and Cigna's Express Scripts worsened the opioid crisis by prioritizing opioids on medicare formularies with few restrictions!
Speaking of fallout from the opioid epidemic, as China restricts fentanyl precursors, Mexican cartels are cutting with deadly alternatives like xylazine and testing the mixtures on animals to measure effectiveness with how long they survive.
With the business creativity and capitalist ruthlessness that cartels are showing, I wonder if Big Pharma is planning on mergng with any. How does "CJNG UnitedHealth Cartel" sound? ;)
Have a Super New Year!
Jessica
