Hi,
Alcohol companies lobby Congress to control hemp-derived THC sales and states like Rhode Island spark fights between liquor stores and cannabis retailers. So we have alcohol joining the hemp industry and battling with cannabis. Interesting. Psilocybin use just surpassed that of cocaine and meth in the US, with more people trying magic mushrooms even though poison control calls, especially for kids, have shot up.
I talk a lot of trash about Purdue, the makers of OxyContin, but we shouldnât just blame a wolf for eating sheep. We should also blame the shepherd who the wolf convinced to open the gates. A major investigation found the FDA (the shepherd) ignored its own rules when it approved OxyContin in 1995. Purdue applied pressure, claiming the FDA was cruelly blocking pain treatment, even though Purdue knew its drugs were addictive. Not so coincidentally, the head of the FDA, Curtis Wright, fast-tracked Purdueâs approvals, let OxyContin hit the market without proper studies, and then took a $400K job at Purdue! While he says he has no regrets, I think it's clear we need a system that eliminates the incentive to help Big Pharma breed addicts in hopes of getting a nice salary and corner office. ;)
